Temporary road closures will be in place in the centre of Rochester for the mile and during the fireworks display on the Esplanade, but major routes through the town will remain open throughout. All closures will be signposted prior to the event.
Alternatively Rochester and Strood train stations are both in walking distance for the event and the town offers many bus routes, please check timetables direct. |
Sponsorship
Many runners may choose to use the Medway Mile as a fundraising opportunity, and we actively encourage you to choose a charity of your choice to benefit from your efforts. Unfortunately we cannot allow bucket collections on the evening, but we encourage sponsored activity based on the mile. |
Race Etiquette
In the interest of promoting an enjoyable experience for everyone, please be aware of the following:
- For the safety and experience of all entrants, runners will be placed at the front of the field, followed by joggers and then walkers. Please ensure you are in the correct group.
- Please be patient as we get everyone safely through the start line. If you drop something as the race starts, please wait until almost everyone has crossed the starting line before retrieving it.
- Pay attention to your surroundings. The streets are cobbled and uneven in places and there may be other obstructions such as pedestrians, shop signs and kerbs.
- Walkers are asked to walk to the right hand side of the roads to allow any joggers and runners to pass on the inside.
- If you are running as a group, please allow space in the road for others to pass you to the left hand side.
- Please be considerate of participants using wheelchairs or with other particular needs. |
- Please respect all marshalls and volunteers. They are there to make decisions for your safety.
- ·Please respect private property along your route and don’t litter. If you are bringing a dog with you, please ensure you clear up after them and keep them on a lead at all times, and be aware we will have large crowds and loud noises including fireworks display.
